WEB DESIGN: CREATE A SITE MAP

Google's web design guidelines state:

Offer a site map to your users with links that point to the important parts of your site.

A site map contains a list of links to the important pages in your website. Typically, the important pages are all the pages that you want the search engines to find.

If you have a small website with only a few pages, you may not need a site map because it is easy enough to place links to all pages on every page. Every page then contains a site map. However, if you have a large site, it may not be practical to do this. This is where a sit map becomes necessary.

The site map also provides a convenient place for the search engines to identify all the pages on your site, and increases the chances for more of your pages to be included in the search engine's index.

Some people build a site map that include not only links, but also a short description of what each page is about. This is useful to visitors.
