Google's web design guidelines state: Offer a site map to your users with links that point to the important parts of your site. A site map contains a list of links to the important pages in your website. Typically, the important pages are all the pages that you want the search engines to find. If you have a small website with only a few pages, you may not need a site map because it is easy enough to place links to all pages on every page. Every page then contains a site map. However, if you have a large site, it may not be practical to do this. This is where a sit map becomes necessary. The site map also provides a convenient place for the search engines to identify all the pages on your site, and increases the chances for more of your pages to be included in the search engine's index.
Some people build a site map that include not only links, but also a short description of what each page is about. This is useful to visitors. Informative Content | Create a Sitemap | Get External Links |

There is a second type of site map, usually referred to as the Google Sitemap, that web designers place in the hosting space but is not the normal web page. This sitemap has now also been adopted by other search engines, including Yahoo and MSN. So this sitemap is something that all major search engines look for. Ask your web designer to create one for you. Informative Content | Create a Sitemap | Get External Links |
